Freeiving with orcas and humpback whales during one of the greatest natural events in our oceans.

Jacques de Vos is an award winning uw photographer and filmmaker whose works have won several prestigious international awards. His photographs have been published around the world in many books and hundreds of magazines, and as a videographer he has worked for the BBC, Epic TV and Red Bull. Jacques is a scuba instructor and freediving instructor trainer from Cape Town and his passion has always been photographing large sea creatures such as sharks, whales, dolphins ... and freedivers. Today, he is actively involved in cetacean research and other marine and conservation projects. Orcas have always been his greatest passion, so he founded Arctic-freediving a few years ago. Expeditions in the Norwegian fjords, observation and freediving with these cetaceans and whole week on a yacht and catamaran. It is a great  reward for me and Jana, that Jacquese choose us as a team for his second yacht.

Every winter, around 6-7 million tons of herring arrive in the Norwegian fjords. These massive schools attract a great numbers of orcas and humpback whales who have come here to feed on. Anywhere else in the world you can't see these cetaceans feeding side by side, in some cases even cooperating in the hunt. Because herring migration patterns change, there is no predetermined place where everything will take place. We are constantly in touch with local resources and have been looking for activity since the early hours. Because we are on two yachts all the time, we can constantly move, spend the night in different places, follow orcas and humpback whales and at the same time discover the beauties of the Norwegian fjords.

Our motto is "small group, big experience" and in water with orcas it really applies. Therefore, there is a maximum of 4 guests on each yacht. Every day we start in the early morning hours looking for orcas and whales and the opportunity to freedive with them. In compliance with strict ethical and safety standards, as soon as we locate a suitable pod, we go on a rhib and into the water. A trained and highly qualified freediving instructor with experience and knowledge of marine life and local conditions is always with you in the water. Our captains have a unique knowledge of the local fjords and you will see a breathtaking places and get to know the local culture.
